24th MEU deployment

Sgt. Timothy I. Conrad with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 261 (Reinforced), 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit, performs routine maintenance on an AH-1 Cobra here, April 4, 2012, as the ship sails across the Atlantic on its maiden deployment. The USS New York is part of the Iwo Jima Amphibious Ready Group, which is carrying 2,300 Marines of the 24th MEU to the European and Central Command theaters of operation. The ARG/MEU team serves as a theater reserve and crisis response force capable of a variety of missions from full-scale combat operations to humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.
