Approximately four miles of 12-kilovolt line runs above and below ground for the power-purchase project between the Miramar Landfill and Marine Corps Air Station Miramar that is set to be complete in May. This agreement will provide the air station with three megawatt-hours of energy to the base from two 1900-kilowatt methane-powered generators at the landfill. As methane gas builds up among the landfill’s waste, it is directed to the generators before being converted to useable energy and sent to the base’s transformers.
