British Royal Marine MNE Joe Townsend competes in the wheelchair 100-meter dash at the track and field competition during the 2012 Marine Corps Trials at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Feb. 19. Townsend won the gold medal in the event as well as in the 200 and 1,500-meter wheelchair events. The Trials, which is hosted by the USMC Wounded Warrior Regiment, includes individual and team competition in sitting volleyball, wheelchair basketball, swimming, cycling, shooting, archery, and track and field. Four teams, East, West, Veteran and International, will go head to head for team gold. The international team has military athletes from seven nations, including the United Kingdom, Canada, France, Australia, Germany, Colombia and the Netherlands.
