Cpl. Anthony McDaniel, native of Pascagoula, Miss., warms up before the 100-meter wheelchair race during the track and field portion of the 2012 Marine Corps Trials at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif., Feb. 19. McDaniel lost both of his legs and his left hand in an improvised explosive device blast in 2010, but still enjoys competitive sports like wheelchair racing and wheelchair basketball. McDaniel and more than 300 injured Marines from the Wounded Warrior Regiment, in addition to veterans and allies, are competing in the second annual Trials, which include swimming, wheelchair basketball, sitting volleyball, track and field, archery, cycling and shooting. The top 50 performing Marines will earn the opportunity to compete in the Warrior Games in Colorado Springs, Colo., in May.
