The Regimental Combat Team 6 sailor of the day is Navy Lt. Ryan P. Maid, operational stress control and readiness psychologist, from Harrisonville, Mo. He has been married for a year.

His duties consist of providing outreach preventative mental health services to Marines and sailors.

Maid has been in the Navy for about two years and said he joined because he always wanted to be in the military. According to Maid, he joined the Navy because it has a variety of billets available for his profession. The variety and options available are also his favorite part of his job and the Navy.

“I wanted a good clinical experience,” Maid said. “I wanted to help people with (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder).”

He also joined the Navy because he enjoys being near water.

“There’s not too much water near Missouri, where I’m from,” he added. “That’s why I love being near the water so much.”

During his off time, he enjoys scuba diving, and going to the beach. His favorite football team is the Chicago Bears and his favorite baseball team is the Kansas City Royals.

He received his undergraduate degree while studying at Central Missouri State University and his graduate degree at Forrest Institute of Professional Psychology.

According to Maid, he enjoys playing video games, with Madden being his favorite and also enjoys buying gadgets for his computer.

Maid can be seen traveling throughout all of the regiment’s area of operations with Seaman Andrew Backus, a sailor that works for him.

“The lieutenant is a great guy,” Backus said. “I love working for him. He’s just great all around and always has a smile on.”

“I’d like to say hi to my wife,” Maid added. “And let her know that I love her and miss her and can’t wait to see her.”

Nerd fact: Maid says that he still has all of his G.I. Joe action figures from when he was younger. “I have over 115 guys and 30-40 vehicles,” Maid said. “I guess that’s when my love for the military started. I always liked the idea of being in the military.
