US ambassador, MFE Marines tour supply caves in Norway

Lt. Col. Nathan Rush speaks with Ambassador Barry B. White, U.S. ambassador to Norway, during a tour of the Frigard cave system, aboard Vaernes Garrison, near Trondheim, Norway, Jan 6. The tour was meant to familiarize military members from U.S. European Command, U.S. Africa Command, Marine Forces Europe and Marine Forces Africa with the Marine Corps Pre-positioning Program -Norway. The MCPP-N program is a logistic cave network comprised of seven locations totaling more than 900,000 sq. ft. of climate controlled storage, stocked with enough food, shelter and equipment to outfit 13,000 Marines for up to 30 days.
“The Marine Corps, with the help of our Norwegian partners, has worked hard to ensure that the equipment stored in this facility is not a relic of the Cold War, but responds directly to today’s security and crisis response needs,” said White.
