Civil affairs Marine Cpl. Justin Stewart (right) of Meridian, Miss., digs an area where he will be sleeping for the night. The 12 Marines and sailor on Team 1, Border Adviser Team 1, carried everything they needed to survive on the battlefield. They packed their tactical packs with water, food, sleeping systems, hygiene kits, warming layers and more. Their beds consisted of holes in the dirt they dug themselves.
