An elated U.S. soldier celebrates through the turret of a mine resistant ambush protected vehicle Dec. 18. The soldier was a part of the last convoy to leave Iraq as part of Operation New Dawn. Despite the troops’ departure, the U.S. will continue to build and strengthen a mutually beneficial partnership with Iraq. Third Army facilitated the redeployment, repositioning and retrograde of more than 50,000 personnel, 28,000 pieces of rolling stock and 800,000 non-rolling items.
