Ryukyu Warrior Marines help expeditionary airfield technicians on Ie Shima Dec. 5 as they prepare the only landing helicopter deck in the Pacific for an inspection on Dec. 6. Upon completion of the resurfacing, the LHD will be the only deck in the Pacific where Marine Corps Harrier pilots can practice vertical and short takeoffs and landings on a mock ship deck before doing it for real. Ryukyu Warrior is an annual exercise in which Marines within 1st Marine Aircraft Wing conduct multiple different training exercises.
