U.S. Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Tyler Nilsson, an Explosives Ordnance Disposal technician temporarily assigned to the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command, examines a large piece of wreckage discovered during the day's excavation. Nilsson, stationed at EOD Mobile Unit 3, Naval Amphibious Base, Coronado, Calif., is augmenting JPAC for a 35-day mission to search for and possibly identify, the remains of seven airmen still unaccounted for from the Vietnam war. The ultimate mission of JPAC, and all the agencies involved, is to achieve the fullest possible accounting of service members still listed as missing from our nation's past conflicts.
