A chartered flight is framed by the U.S. Flag, held aloft by ladder trucks from the Salem Fire Department, following the Dec. 12 arrival of the second group of soldiers from the Oregon Army National Guard's 1249th Engineer Battalion following their 400-day deployment to Afghanistan. The flight landed at the Salem Municipal Airport where family and friends waited to greet them. The unit's primary role during their 400-day deployment to Afghanistan was command and control, while providing support for Task Force Gridley.
