U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Domingo Chavez, a team leader with the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command, excavates a 4x4 meter grid on the recovery site while searching for the remains of seven airmen whose aircraft crashed in the mountains over Laos during the Vietnam war. The ultimate goal of the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command, and of the agencies involved in returning America’s heroes home, is to achieve the fullest possible accounting of Americans lost during the nation’s past conflicts.
