Lance Cpl. Brandon A. Russ pulls a lanyard to fire an M777 howitzer during live-fire training here Nov. 12. Russ is from Hotel Battery, a reserve unit headquartered in Richmond, Va., currently attached through the Unit Deployment Program to 3rd Battalion, 12th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force. Russ’ job on his gun section is to close the breach and fire the gun. 3rd Battalion, 12th Marines is conducting Artillery Relocation Training Program 11-3, a regularly scheduled exercise designed to enhance the unit’s combat readiness.
