Staff Sgt. Harold Hardial, 379th Expeditionary Maintenance Squadron physical dimension lead technician, cleans off a micrometer caliper following a calibration Nov. 15, 2011, at an undisclosed location in Southwest Asia. A micrometer is used to make precise linear measurements of dimensions such as diameter, thickness and length of solid bodies. Hardial works in the squadron’s Precision Measurement Equipment Laboratory, where airmen service equipment from approximately 320 units in the area of responsibility, making sure that more than 15,000 pieces of test equipment are properly calibrated and in the hands of warfighters. Hardial, a native of Queens, N.Y, is deployed from Holloman Air Force Base, N.M.
