Sgt. 1st Class Clifton Rash, an Ordinance Advanced Leaders Course senior instructor at the Army Logistics University, prepares to give Department of the Army Best Warrior 2011 competitors the command "go" to begin the sit-ups portion of the Army Physical Fitness Test, Oct. 3, at Williams Stadium field, Fort Lee, Va. At 5:00 a.m., the week-long competition kicked off with a chilly and wet APFT. The APFT measures soldiers' muscular strength, endurance, and cardiovascular respiratory fitness based on three events; push-ups, sit-ups, and a two-mile run.
