Members of the Half Moon Fire Department pay their respects at the Memorial Beam in the Lejeune Memorial Gardens following the Patriot Day 2011 ceremony, marking the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, at the Memorial Beam in Lejeune Memorial Gardens, Sept. 11. Of the near 3,000 people who lost their lives that day, among them were first responders from the New York Fire Department, disregarding their personal safety to come to the aid of those in and around the World Trade Center.
