FIREBASE SAENZ, Helmand province, Afghanistan—Petty Officer 3rd Class Ryan Kelly, a Corpsman with Alpha Battery, knocks out a set of pull-ups during combat conditioning at the start of a Marine Corps Martial Arts class. Marines and sailors go through conditioning drills and circuit courses not only to build their physical endurance but to remind themselves of the sacrifices of those who came before them, molding nearly 236 years of naval tradition.
