Kenya Thomas, who lives in Daphne, Ala., uses her home sewing machine to sew 150 pillows, one for every member of Echo Battery, 2nd Battalion, 12th Marine Regiment, while they are deployed in Afghanistan. After hand sewing the pillows to keep the stuffing in, Thomas said she also runs them through the dryer with a scented fabric softener sheet to ensure the pillows smell fresh upon arrival.
