Senior Airman Peter Beyer, 374th Civil Engineer Squadron, inspects a 1,200-foot strap used to stop aircraft during annual aircraft arresting barrier system tests at Yokota Air Base, Japan, July 13, 2011. The arresting gear is used in the event of an emergency where a fighter or similar aircraft cannot stop on its own. A tailhook catches the cable stretched across the runway and massive hydraulic reels slowly bring the aircraft to a stop.
