Mark Thomas, command master chief of Naval Mobile Construction 1, addresses his Seabees before they depart on a convoy mission to northern Afghanistan. The convoy is one of the largest NMCB 1 has sent on a mission to support the outlying forward operating bases throughout Afghanistan. NMCB 1 is deployed to Kandahar as part of Task Force Overlord. The task force, commanded by the 25th Naval Construction Regiment from Gulfport, Miss., is responsible for all construction engineering and engineering support in South and Southwest Afghanistan.
