Nieves, HHC, 1st Battalion, 181st Infantry Regiment, Massachusetts Army National Guard June 4, on Camp Phoenix in Kabul, Afghanistan. Sgt. Steven W. Grasso was also awarded the Purple Heart and Spc. Stephen Leon was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for valor.
