  • Service members from both U.S. Naval Station Guantanamo Bay and Joint Task Force Guantanamo participate in the annual Fourth of July Run at U.S. Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, July 4. The top three participants who crossed the finish line first received medals and the first 100 runners who signed up for the event were given T-shirts. JTF Guantanamo conducts safe, humane, legal and transparent care and custody of detainees, including those convicted by military commission and those ordered released by a court. The JTF conducts intelligence collection, analysis and dissemination for the protection of detainees and personnel working in JTF Guantanamo facilities and in support of the War on Terror. JTF Guantanamo provides support to the Office of Military Commissions, to law enforcement and to war crimes investigations. The JTF conducts planning for and, on order, responds to Caribbean mass migration operations.
  • Cory Geiger (center), Morale Welfare and Recreation Guantanamo Outdoor Recreation coordinator, paddles to the head of the pack during a Moral Welfare and Recreation sponsored kayaking trip in the Guantanamo Bay, July 10. More than 20 service members stationed at Joint Task Force and Naval Station Guantanamo participated in the early morning event.
