Christian Kapler, an infantryman from Oelwein, Iowa, from Company B, 1st Battalion, 133rd Infantry Battalion, shows the dry-erase board he draws out projects for his crew of 44 local national Afghan workers to construct March 5 at Forward Operating Base Torkham Gate, Afghanistan. The 31-year-old Iowa National Guard soldier and civilian union carpenter has become the go-to guy for projects on the expanding base, and his work is evident everywhere one sets foot on Torkham Gate.
