“Staff Sergeant Giunta, we acknowledge your courage, your sacrifice and we thank you for being a soldier," said Maj. Gen. David R. Hogg, commander, U.S. Army Africa, of Medal of Honor recipient Staff Sgt. Salvatore Giunta of 2nd Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team, at the post theatre in Vicenza, Italy, March 7. Giunta is the only living Medal of Honor recipient from the current wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
