Cpl. Jacob Hoag, the Motor Transportation maintenance chief for 1st platoon, India Battery, 3 rd Battalion, 12th Marine Regiment, Regimental Combat Team 2, slowly squeezes the trigger from a lookout point at Afghan National Police Patrol Base Gara, Sept. 6. At 1600 meters, Hoag uses the Barrett .50 caliber sniper rifle to hold security as fellow Marines patrol a village in Kajaki. Hoag, a native of bend, Oregon, took the place of Cpl. Brendan Gillen when he left Afghanistan on emergency leave.
