Cpl. Jacob Hoag, the Motor Transportation maintenance chief, and Cpl. Cody Scholes, a field artillery cannon crewman, both with India Battery, 3rd Battalion, 12th Marine Regiment, Regimental Combat Team 2, take the Barrett .50 caliber sniper rifle out of its case and assemble it at Afghan National Police Patrol Base Gara, Sept. 6. Hoag, a lifetime shooter, grew up hunting at the early age of 9 in the small town of Bend, Ore. Hoag enlisted in the Marine Corps as a motor transportation mechanic, Sept. 11, 2006. After arriving in Afghanistan, May 7, Hoag’s mechanic career took a unique turn. He is now an India Battery .50 cal sniper and a mechanic.
