Thousands of Vietnam Veterans attended the “Thank you from the Heartland: A salute to Vietnam Veterans” events Aug. 26-29. The events sought to give Vietnam Veterans a proper homecoming. Brig. Gen. Robin B. Akin, the commanding general of Fort Knox’s 3rd Sustainment Command (Expeditionary), was the guest speaker for the “Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans” ceremony at Optimist Park in Vine Grove, Ky., Aug. 26.
