Staff Sgt. Christoffer Knight, an artillery scout, and Lance Cpl. Cameron Grischott, a communications technician both assigned to 3rd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, Regimental Combat Team 2, reload a 240-G machine gun during an engagement with enemy forces just outside the barriers surrounding Forward Operating Base Jackson in Helmand province, July 23. Marines and their British counterparts manned the posts when insurgents began shooting at the base. Girschott, a 22-year-old native of Carson City, Nev., manned a machine gun while his fellow Marines used their rifle scopes to locate the enemy. During the firefight that lasted about an hour, Marines utilized mortars, machine-guns and missiles to ward off the enemy.
