Staff Sgt. Christoffer Knight, an artillery scout, and Lance Cpl. Cameron Grischott, a communications technician both assigned to 3rd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, Regimental Combat Team 2, locate the enemy before returning fire, during a firefight near Forward Operating Base Jackson in Helmand province, July 23. Marines across the camp grabbed their weapons and manned the walls to protect the base. The fight, which lasted about an hour, began late in the afternoon when insurgents began shooting at the base. The Marines and their British counterparts reacted in kind with heavy machine-gun fire, mortars and missiles.
