  • Thousands of Vietnam Veterans attended the “Thank you from the Heartland: A salute to Vietnam Veterans” events Aug. 26-29. The events sought to give Vietnam Veterans a proper homecoming. Brig. Gen. Robin B. Akin, the commanding general of Fort Knox’s 3rd Sustainment Command (Expeditionary), was the guest speaker for the “Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans” ceremony at Optimist Park in Vine Grove, Ky., Aug. 26.

Maisel, a force protection non-commissioned officer with the 3rd Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) and Denton, Md., native, lay wreaths on the headstones of fallen veterans during the Wreaths Across America ceremony held at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central in Radcliff, Dec. 11. Maisel was one of eight soldiers from the 3rd ESC and 233rd Transportation Company who participated in the ceremony in which wreaths were laid on the headstones of fallen veterans.

Cannon shines the metal fence that protects the cemetery’s logo Sept. 28 during a voluntary cemetery cleanup at Clark Veterans Cemetery, Clark Air Field, Pampanga, Republic of the Philippines. “These fallen veterans deserve nothing, but the best and the two hours the Marines provided us with help, equals to about 40 hours,” said Carl D. Burke, the senior vice commander for the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2485. Cannon is a landing support specialist with 3d Marine Expeditionary Brigade, III Marine Expeditionary Force and is in the Philippines conducting Amphibious Landing Exercise 2014. PHIBLEX 14 is an exercise designed to improve Philippine-U.S. interoperability, increase readiness, and enhance the ability for a bilateral force to respond to natural disasters or other regional contingencies.   • Brig. Gen. Robin Akin, 3rd Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) commander and Nashville, Tenn., native, addresses the 3rd ESC commander’s conference in Fort Knox’s Harris Hall June 29. Akin talked about the issues and challenges facing the 3rd ESC, one of the Army’s three active duty expeditionary sustainment commands.
