USS Peleliu steams past its namesake, the island of Peleliu June 13, rendering honors to the island and its historic battle for which the ship is named. The Battle of Peleliu was one of the bloodiest battles in the Pacific during World War II, with eight Medal of Honor recipients. Peleliu is the flagship of the Peleliu Amphibious Ready Group currently on a scheduled western Pacific deployment.
