Master Chief Petty Officer Michael Leavitt assumes the duties of Master Chief Petty Officer of the Coast Guard from Master Chief Petty Officer Charles W. Bowen during a Change of Watch ceremony in Cape May, N.J., May 21. The Master Chief Petty Officer of the Coast Guard is the most senior enlisted chief petty officer and acts as a personal advisor and assistant to the commandant in matters affecting the enlisted members of the Coast Guard, active and reserve, and their families.
