Team Coast Guard members wearing red, white and blue, Cmdr. Bill Lane, Petty Officer 1st Class Gene Ward and Cmdr. George Bonner, draft behind this pack of cyclist in the Hampton Roads Tour de Cure cycling event near the North Carolina, Virginia border on Saturday, April 17. The tour is a series of fundraising cycling events held in 43 states nationwide to benefit the American Diabetes Association. The team was made up of people from various commands in the Hampton Roads area. They were able to raise $4,345 and most of them rode the 100 mile Century Route. According to the tour's website, the tour is a ride, not a race, with routes designed for everyone from the occasional rider to the experienced cyclist. In 2009, more than 40,000 cyclists in 80 tour events raised nearly $17 million to support the mission of the ADA: to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes.
