Master Sgt. Chip Koons, 557th Expeditionary Rapid Engineer Deployable Heavy Operation Repair Squadron of Engineers NCO in charge, operates a loader to clean up the excess acoustic insulation during construction of the transient village at Joint Base Balad, Iraq, March 31. The construction project began at the end of January and is slated to be complete by mid-May. The village will house up to 600 redeploying service members and offer laundry service, a USO, a gymnasium, latrines, a passenger waiting facility and a commercial carrier yard for cargo.
