Marines from 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, give their final respects to their fallen brothers during a memorial service on Patrol Base Hassan Abad, Garmsir District, Helmand province, Afghanistan, March 22. Pfc. Jason H. Estopinal, a rifleman with Golf Company, 2/2, Staff Sgt. Christopher W. Eckard an explosive ordinance disposal technician attached to Golf Company, 2/2, Lance Cpl. Adam D. Peak, a mortarman with Weapons Company, 2/2, Lance Cpl. Eric L. Ward, a machine gunner with Weapons Company, and Lance Cpl. Garrett W. Gamble, an automatic rifleman with Golf Company, 2/2, were killed in action while conducting counterinsurgency operations in Garmsir District. "I want [Eckard's] boys to know that he is a true American hero as are Pfc. Estopinal, Lance Cpl. Peak, Lance Cpl. Ward, and Lance Cpl. Gamble," said Gunnery Sgt. Daniel R. Thibault Jr., an explosive ordinance technician attached to 2/2. "Let's keep their memories alive by continuing to close with and destroy the enemy and believing in our mission."
