Soldiers work together at Allied Trades

Spc. Chad Moncada, an Allied Trades woodworker with the 514th Maintenance Company, 80th Ordnance Battalion, 15th Sustainment Brigade, 13th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) and a Holiday, Fla., native, puts the finishing touches on a flag case at the Allied Trades woodshop, Jan. 20, at Joint Base Balad, Iraq. When they are not building mission essential furniture, Moncada and the other woodworkers build keepsakes for units at JBB.

  • Warrant Officer Randy Jones, officer in charge of the 489th woodshop operations and Asheville, N.C native teaches efficient and safe woodworking techniques his Soldiers. Jones and his Soldiers craft works of art in the 489th Engineer Battalions’ woodshop at Kandahar Air Field, Afghanistan Feb. 15, 2014. The wood shop is one of few, if not the only, Army woodshop in Afghanistan. The Soldiers working here make beautiful products with limited building materials for customers throughout Afghanistan. Jones has a construction business and has taught shop to high school students for more than 18 years in the S.C. school system.

Charles Patrick, an allied trades specialist with the 632nd Maintenance Company, 749th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 4th Sustainment Brigade, 103rd Sustainment Command (Expeditionary), grinds down a piece of metal March 14 in preparation to perform a welding project. He and fellow soldiers within the Allied Trades shop and the 632nd will be ending their tour in the coming weeks.
  • Tech. Sgt. Jason Lares, a supply technician with the 571st Mobility Support Advisory Squadron, works together with 2nd Tech. Sgt. Mario David Sierra Moncada, a Honduran supply technician in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. The two airmen are exchanging ideas relating to how the U.S. Air Force and Honduran air force handle their supply chain process. Over the next 30 days, Lares and Sierra will continue trading ideas and experiences while working together to build relationships and partner capacity between the U.S. and Honduran air forces.
