Major Eric J. Wagar with the U.S. Army Medical Research Unit-Kenya and The Walter Reed Project lectures on the malaria microscopy challenges in the classroom of the National Reference Laboratory and Quality Assurance Training Center to the 21 malaria microscopy students on the morning of Nov. 23. U.S. Africa Command"s Combined Joint Task Force - Horn of Africa, in cooperation with the U.S. Army Medical Research Unit-Kenya and their Kenyan partners, the Kenya Medical Research Institute, are conducting a medical engagement to provide a two week basic malaria microscopy training, Nov. 23 through Dec. 4, 2009, to medical laboratory technologists from Tanga Region, Tanzania. The U.S. President"s Malaria Initiative-Tanzania is also facilitating the training.
