Surface assets participating in the exercise are part of CTF Pacific or Caribbean, depending on which side of the canal they are operating. FA PANAMAX 2009 is focused on the defense of the Panama Canal, with participants from 20 countries and involving more than 4,500 personnel throughout the U.S. Southern Command area of focus.
