Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer and Montana Adj. Gen. BG John E. Walsh discuss the emergency response provided by members of the Montana National Guard, federal, state and local agencies during the Vigilant Guard 2009 exercise held in the Helena, Mont. area, Sept. 15. The exercise scenario involved the local community being struck by a violent 6.5 magnitude earthquake. The Vigilant Guard exercise is a Homeland Defense/Homeland Security FEMA Regional exercise hosted by the National Guard in conjunction with the State of Montana. The primary goal is to enhance mutual emergency coordination, response and recovery during the simulated natural disaster.
