Iraq-bound troops receive gift from local community

Soldiers wait in line for their free concessions courtesy of the local Franklin community, Aug. 9, at the Canary Creek Cinema in Franklin, Ind. The Soldiers, who are part of the 1483rd Transportation Company, Ohio National Guard, are currently training at Camp Atterbury Joint Maneuver Training Center near Edinburgh, Ind., prior to deploying to Iraq later this summer.

  • During pre-mobilization training, Spc. Sarah Gober and Spc. Andrew Gober were married at Camp Atterbury Chapel, Edinburgh, Ind. on Dec. 11, 2008.  Although they are newlyweds, Spc. Sarah Gober of Franklin, Ind. remains with the rear detachment.  Spc. Andrew Gober, from Brazil, Ind., serves as a SAMS-E Operator in Iraq.  The two Soldiers originally planned to serve together in Iraq but are now expecting their first child.  They are one of ten married couples who are members of the 138th Quartermaster Support Company, 751st Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 10th Sustainment Brigade, Brazil, Ind.
  • Lance Cpl. Zachary A. Kelly, Franklin, Ind. native, and Lance Cpl. Patrick W. Suggett of Norton, Ohio, both Marines with the Chemical Biological Incident Response Force, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force, lower a simulated casualty to safety, March 14, at Muscatatuck Urban Training Complex. The Marines performed this training during exercise Vibrant Response, a multi-government exercise in which a simulated nuclear bomb is detonated, and a local community is portrayed as being torn apart in the aftermath of the explosion.
