Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates is greeted by Lt. Gen. Charles Jacoby, Multi-National Corps - Iraq commander, as he visits the 4th Brigade, 1st Armored Division, July 28, at Contingency Operating Base Adder. The brigade, commanded by Col. Peter Newell, is the Army's proof of principle unit for the "advisory and assistance" mission. The 4th Brigade, 1st Armored Division "Highlander" is deployed out of Fort Bliss, Texas and advises, assists, and trains Iraqi security forces in the provinces of Dhi Qar, Maysan, and Muthanna.
