The amphibious transport dock ship USS San Diego (LPD 22) participates in cross well recovery training with the amphibious dock landing ship USS Comstock (LSD 45) during Exercise Red Reef 15. Red Reef is part of a routine biennial, bilateral exercise focused on increasing the tactical proficiency of the U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps and Royal Saudi Naval Forces. San Diego is part of the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group and, with the embarked 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit, is deployed in support of maritime and theater security operations in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility.
