Department of the Army civilians Colleen Bergmanis, Joshua Bridges, and Luis Viegas, assigned to Training Support Activity Europe, Joint Multinational Training Command, review a topographic map of the training facilities Nov. 24, 2014, at the Oberdachstetten Local Training Area (LTA). Their walkthrough of the LTA was part of a Range and Training Land Assessment (RTLA). RTLA collects physical and biological resource data and evaluates trends in land condition across the installation. Additional projects include mapping the distribution and general effects of erosion, analyzing current and historic military training distribution in relation to land condition, and evaluating natural resource issues with the possibility of encroaching on training use potential. Maintaining natural systems in prime condition helps provide a unique diversity of landscapes to enhance the military training experience while limiting loss of training potential from increased concealment loss, encroachment and erosion. All of this helps to provide U.S. Army Europe Soldiers with the ability to perform rigorous, realistic and relevant home-station training that enhances their combat readiness.
