A CH-53E Super Stallion helicopter, attached to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron (VMM) 163 (Reinforced), performs routine flight operations while assigned to the amphibious transport dock ship USS San Diego (LPD 22). San Diego is a part of the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group, and with the embarked 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit, is deployed in support of maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility.
