Partners in search and rescue: An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew prepares to land and deliver an injured ATV rider to the awaiting team of Kodiak Island Fire Rescue and an ambulance that will provide the next stage of care and ground transport to Providence Medical Center on Aug. 1, 2014. The Coast Guard is called in to assist when mariners and hikers face life-threatening emergencies and are beyond the reach of conventional transportation and road systems. Aviation survival technicians, health services technicians and flight surgeons provide emergency medical treatment en route to the higher level of care that hospitals can provide, and fire rescue teams are a partner in that care and transport process.
