The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Fort Worth District will extend an existing chain of wetlands, shown here in southeast Dallas, even closer to downtown. Under the $15.9 million contract, awarded Sept. 23, three more ponds surrounded by grasslands will be excavated and planted, which will manage flood risk in the Dallas Floodway System while providing new quality wildlife habitat and recreational opportunities near the city's urban core.
