Soldiers from Maryland Defense Force spread out a replica of the original Star-Spangled Banner in preparation for the flag to be flown during the Dawn’s Early Light Ceremony at Fort McHenry National Monument, Md., Sept. 14, 2014, during the Star-Spangled Spectacular. The flag was flown at the exact time, date and place the original was flown 200 years ago during the War of 1812. The flag raising in 1814 signaled that Fort McHenry had withstood the bombardment from the British Navy, saving the City of Baltimore from capture and inspiring Francis Scott Key to pen the “Star-Spangled Banner.”
