A group of U.S. Air Force airmen run with the American glad during the Run for the Fallen on Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan, Sept. 10, 2014. The race was organized by Master Sgt. Jason Torres, running on the right. Teams of runners volunteered to run for 30 minutes throughout the night to log miles toward reaching a goal of 3320 total miles, one for each of the coalition Service members who have died in Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom. The flag the airmen carry in the photo was carried by runners the entire 13 hours of the run and will be presented to a Gold Star family, a family that has lost a loved one in combat.
