Japan Ground Self-Defense Force Col. Hiroyuki Oshino, center, inspects an M777A2 lightweight 155 mm howitzer during an observation tour Aug. 26 as part of Artillery Relocation Training Program 14-2 at the Yausubetsu Maneuver Area in Hokkaido. Oshino comes from an artillery background and had many questions for the participating U.S. Marines about the weapon. Oshino is the commanding officer of 5th Artillery Battalion, 5th Brigade, Northern Army, JGSDF. The Marines are with 3rd Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment, currently assigned to 12th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, under the unit deployment program.
