Smokey Sams are used to safely simulate ground-to-air missiles fired at military aircraft. The MCAS Yuma range support department sets up and operates Smokey Sams, numerous different targets, and other range equipment to provide a worthwhile, realistic training experience for soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines.
